Two of the Major Landmarks to Explore in Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a popular city that is located in the Thar Desert region of the Indian state of Rajasthan. This is also referred to as the Blue City, as majority of the houses present in its old city area are in the diverse shades of blue. Many of the forts, palaces, temples and havelis present here are also built in vivid shares of azure.  The origins of Jodhpur date back to the 1459 AD and its rich history largely revolve around the popular Rathore clan. People can easily book comprehensive tour package or even a specialized Jodhpur honeymoon package in order to get a tour of this beautiful city.

Here are two the major landmarks to explore at Jodhpur:

· Umaid Bhawan Palace: This is one of the largest private residences of the world. A part of this palace is now managed by the popular Taj Hotel brand.  This palace is now divided by three key functional segments, luxury Taj Palace Hotel, the residence of the royal family, and a lavish museum that focuses on the 20th-century history of the Royal Family of Jodhpur.

The museum present here features exhibits of light house shapes, stuffed leopards, as well as a large symbolic flag given to Maharaja Jaswant Singh by Queen Victoria in the year of 1877.  The classic cars of the Maharajas are also present on display in the garden of this museum.

·  Mehrangarh: The Mehrangarh fort is one of the largest forts of the country, and had been built around the year of 1459. This fort stands tall at the height of 410 feet (125 m) above the city, and is enclosed by imposing large walls.  Inside the boundaries of the Mehrangarh fort people can find several palaces and havelis featuring expansive courtyards and intricate carvings. At the second gate of this fort, the impact of cannonballs fired during attacks by the armies of Jaipur can be seen. To the left side of this fort people can find the chhatri of Kirat Singh Soda, a soldier who died defending the Mehrangarh fort.

The National Geological Monument, chamunda Mataji Temple, and Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park are some of the key attractions of the Mehrangarh fort.
