Must Visit Places in Lucknow

Lucknow is a city located in the northern region of Uttar Pradesh. February, March, October, November, and December are considered to be the best months to visit this city. If you have been planning to visit the city for some time but not sure of the places to visit, then go through this blog before booking your flight tickets to Lucknow.

1. Bara Imambara

Built in 1784 by the then-Nawab of Lucknow, Asuf-Ud-Daula, it is often referred to as Asafi Imambara. It is a shrine for Azadari built by Shia Muslims.  The complex is one of the first attempts to build imitate the architecture of Mughals. Bara Imambara is a part of Asuf-Ud-Daula’s legacy and comprises of a Bhool Bhulaiya, Asfi Mosque, and a Bowli. Furthermore, it is believed that an underground passageway from Bara Imambara leads to Gomti River; however, the tunnel leading to the passageway has been blocked.


2. Rumi Darwaza

The work of Rumi Darwaza was finished in the year 1784 after it was commissioned by the then-Nawab, Asuf-Ud-Daula. The gateway of the Rumi Darwaza was designed to imitate the gateways of what is now called Istanbul, earlier known as Constantinople. The gateway has been adorned beautifully with carved flowers. Rumi Darwaza has been built with no wood or iron for its support from outside.

3. Hazratganj Market

Established in 1810 by the then-Nawab Saadat Ali Khan, it is named after the fourth caliph Hazrat Ali. The market has several lanes which were earlier frequently visited by lovers of poetry, music, and perfumes. It was once a favourite place for leisurely walks among Zamindars, Nawabs, and British officials.

Hazratganj Market is a busy shopping area that consists of several markets. It is also sometimes known as the ‘Park Avenue’ of Lucknow. The royal streets of the market lead to the state capital’s heritage zone, Shiraz-E-Hind, which was named after the city of Iran.
